In the opening sequence of ‘Scream’ we see that there is a house surrounded by thick compacted trees; the footage also suggests that there isn’t a lot of open space; this creates a claustrophobic environment, and a feeling that the character is trapped. The audience will feel suffocated in this scene. This relates to Clayton Vale as for the first shot we will film Yolanda’s character walking through Arches that lead into the park, this relates to ‘Scream’ because the surrounding area consists of thick trees and wild plant life, hence it will seem compact, with little space.
This picture shows the opening scene of the film ‘Scream’, it shows the house surrounded by trees at an isolated location.
The picture above is taken from underneath the arches facing the ledge that James will stand on and Yolanda will walk under. This is similar to Scream because one of the main protagonists, Ghostface, is watching the girl and in our film, James will be watching Yolanda.
Another comparison that we found in Scream was that, when Ghostface is chasing chases the girl we see them running in open space, but trees and plant life are still in the surroundings, this suggests that there’s a lot of open space and it looks deserted. We found that, to create an eerie effect we would still use a compact effect given by the surrounding trees but we would also have some open space. This could make the audience believe that an event could happen here at any moment.
This is the scene in ‘Scream’ where Ghostface, is about to catch the girl.
This is the location where we plan to scene Yolanda walking towards the path which is surrounded by trees.
These are some more pictures of Clayton Vale that we think would be effective in our film opening.
